Nicole M. Atlas focuses her practice on representing New York hospitals, physicians, nurses, paramedics and other healthcare professionals in complex medical malpractice cases, as well as nursing homes in negligence claims. Nicole represents health care professionals in multiple areas, including emergency medicine, orthopedics, obstetrics, neurology, nephrology and wound care throughout New York City’s five boroughs, Long Island, Rockland, Orange, Westchester and Upstate New York. She also represents insurance companies in the areas of general liability matters.

Prior to joining Sheeley, Nicole was Of Counsel at a nationwide defense firm handling a diverse caseload, including wound care treatment, dialysis treatment centers and failure to diagnose cancer. Her years of experience allow Nicole to handle cases from inception through trial, including taking depositions, motion practice and mediations. Nicole is experienced in obtaining positive results for her clients, including substantive dismissals and negotiating settlements and prides herself in proactive and passionate defense of her clients. Some examples of Nicole’s successful results are: obtaining summary judgment for a obstetrical physician assistant, in a negligent and improper prescription of oral contraceptives that resulted in a deep vein thrombosis and death of a 40 year old patient.  Dismissal of a claim of improper administration of dialysis, resulting in infection and death of 20-year old patient on behalf of the dialysis center.  Successful mediation of a high exposure case involving elder abuse where a home health aide was captured on video assaulting the disabled, elderly patient.

Nicole lives on Staten Island with her husband and two children. She serves on the Board of the Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Foundation, which provides financial and emotional support to individuals in need, especially children. The Foundation operates youth boxing gyms and education centers in Brooklyn and Staten Island among other programs to motivate students.
