Associate

Carly Berntsen is an associate attorney with a focus on defense litigation. Prior to joining Sheeley, Carly served as an Assistant District Attorney in Richmond County, where she was assigned to the Trials Bureau. She gained extensive courtroom experience prosecuting a wide range of criminal matters and managed all aspects of investigation, discovery, motion practice, and trial litigation.

Drawing on her litigation experience, Carly brings a strategic and practical approach to representing clients in all phases of civil litigation. She is committed to providing thoughtful, results-oriented advocacy and responsive counsel to her clients.

Noteworthy Cases

First Chair of a press-interest felony Arson trial in Richmond County that went to verdict where the defendant started a fire in his backyard that burned down his own house, two other occupied houses, and three vehicles; First Chair of a misdemeanor Unlawful Fleeing the Police in a Motor Vehicle and Reckless Driving trial that went to verdict where the defendant refused to pull over for a police vehicle and led police on a multi-neighborhood pursuit across Staten Island; Participated in an investigation into a retail store burglary where the value of stolen goods is in excess of one million dollars.

Carly lives in Monmouth County, NJ with her fiancé. In her free time, she enjoys reading, running, and spending time with family and friends.
